Steelhead Variations

May 14, 2007

“…The steelhead
is a Burmese spy, a hired gun
from Crete.”
-Richard Hugo, Plunking the Skagit

All men strive to possess that thing they find most beautiful. To touch it. To sweat and bleed for it. To look at it and say, “Mine.”

For some it is a lawn. For others it’s a Porsche.

Too bad for them.

  1. That fish doesn’t even look real. Your hand is so red. The water must have been really cold.

  2. What a beautiful fish and a stunning photo.

You better hope that the lawn and Porsche lovers don’t see this or you’ll soon find them at your favourite pool trying to elbow you out ;oP

  3. I knew someone once who had a silver Porsche. He was a real loser.

  4. Very beautiful fish, TMF. Annie’s right, it doesn’t even look real…

  5. Tee Hee!!! I agree with Mom, he is a real loser.

  6. I wondered if anyone would pick up on that JDawg!

  7. momandannie–I’m pretty sure he wasn’t a fisherman, either.

BCM–I’m confident that steelheading conditions are enough to keep the lawn and Porsche guys well within city limits. We’ve all heard Paul O’Neil’s famous line: “I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering trout.”

  8. Well said, fellow madman.

  9. Re “too bad for them….

  10. OOps…I’ll read all the comments before I add mine!

  11. That’s all right, Shupac. You should have read the bastardized version of the O’Neil quote I had written from memory before I thought to look it up. I don’t even think it made sense.

  12. I would have liked to see YOUR version TMF. 🙂
